Two young drivers are facing charges for allegedly racing their BMW’s in the streets of Waterloo during the Sunday evening dinner hour.
Waterloo Regional Police said at about 5 p.m. that day, calls came in about two vehicles racing in the University Avenue West and Albert Street area.
Officers then spotted a black BMW and a red BMW allegedly “travelling at high rates of speed and impeding traffic” on King Street North.
Police said, “at the time, Uptown Waterloo has a large volume of pedestrian and vehicular traffic,” but stopped short of specifically mentioning the St. Patrick’s Day student street party area.
Officers pulled both BMWs over – an 18-year-old from Scarborough and a 19-year-old from Grey County were charged with stunt driving and other offences.
Police say the BMW’s were impounded for fourteen days, and the two accused had their driver’s licenses suspended for 30 days.
