Students at Elizabeth Ziegler PS getting devices this week for learning amid closure

March break is over, but the only reason students at Elizabeth Ziegler Public School have to go back to school is to pick up the devices they need to stay home.

The Ziegler school building has to remain closed for the rest of the school year. Engineers need that much time for ongoing structural testing and repairs.

Monday afternoon, between 1:00 and 4:30, devices for synchronous learning at home will be handed out.

A statement from the Waterloo Region District School Board said the devices have been labelled for each student, sorted by last names.

Students with last names starting with A to L will be available for pickup in Portable 2; M to Z will be available for pickup in Portable 3.

The board said these devices will be temporarily loaned to students, and tech support is available for families from the Tech@Home website.

Starting next week, some students can come back for in-person learning, but they’ll have to make due with a dozen portables.

That begins Tuesday, April 1, because Monday, March 31 is a PD day.
