High-risk offender in Guelph arrested yet again after being spotted sleeping on university campus

A high-risk offender in Guelph has been arrested less than two weeks after being released from custody.
This arrest comes after the University of Guelph released a safety bulletin, warning that the offender, Medhani Yohans, was spotted sleeping on campus.
Yohans, 35, has a history of arrests in the Royal City. He was released from custody in Toronto back in August, and was required to check in with the Guelph Police Service within one week of his release.

He failed to do so and was arrested in Guelph.
On March 1, Yohans was released into the public again, and was later spotted at the university by a Campus Safety Officer (CSO). He was promptly removed from the campus.
On March 10, Guelph Police arrested Yohans for allegedly breaching a court order by being near an address he’s been ordered to stay away from.
“He was located in the downtown are of Guelph, and at the time, was within 150 metres of an address that he had been ordered to stay away from,” said Scott Tracey, media relations coordinator with the Guelph Police Service.

Yohans is considered to pose a particular risk to women, and has a history of sexual violence that includes sexual assaults on two strangers.
“Our position, I think fairly clearly, is that given his history and the risk he poses to the community, that he should not be granted bail,” said Tracey. “It is ultimately up to the court, they’re the ones who decide whether bail is granted or now.”
He’s being held for a bail hearing on Thursday.
