Kitchener Rangers host first-ever Downtown Showdown

The Kitchener Rangers have big plans for March break.

The Blueshirts are taking their talents to Kitchener core for the first ever Downtown Showdown at Carl Zehr Square, an outdoor 3-on-3 game with accompanying fun for the whole family.

The festivities kick off at noon on March 11 and run until 4 p.m. The day will feature a community skate, a skills competition, music, food trucks and more.

“I think it’s so important to focus on how much the community not only gives to the guys every Friday night at The Aud but I think it’s important to give back to the fans that grow up idolizing these guys,” said Chantel Valliere, game operations coordinator with the Kitchener Rangers.

According to Valliere, they plan on making the downtown outdoor game a yearly tradition.

“They’ve been around since 1963, they’re a household name,” said Valliere. “So many people I personally know in the community come to The Aud on Friday nights, and it’s been their tradition for so long.”

The event was inspired by the annual outdoor practices hosted by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
