Fire in Cambridge consumes home; one man with serious injuries

By Justin Koehler

An evening blaze in Cambridge has engulfed a residential home and sent one man to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

It all happened Saturday evening when emergency services were called to a home in the area of Main Street East and Franklin Boulevard for a reported residential fire.

When they arrived, officers were quick to close off a portion of the road in both directions to allow firefighters the space to try and contain the blaze.

When the fire was finally contained, officials said the building had sustained major damage. A 69-year-old man was sent to an out-of-region hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

No updates have been provided as to the man’s condition.

Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) has said the cause of the fire is still unknown. An investigation is ongoing in a joint effort alongside the Ontario Fire Marshall.

Anyone with additional details on the fire is asked to reach out to WRPS.
