Kitchener rally marks third anniversary of Russia-Ukraine conflict

By Justin Koehler

The City of Kitchener hosted a rally outside city hall as part of a global day of action to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022 in a major escalation of a conflict that began in 2014.

The ongoing war has been categorized as the largest and deadliest conflict in Europe since the Second World War. It has led to hundreds of thousands of military casualties and tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians dead.

Sunday’s event was held by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Waterloo-Wellington chapter, with the goal of bringing further support and understanding to the local community. Many Ukrainians have since fled into Canada as refugees since the war first began.
