A series of thefts from vehicles in the Preston area of Cambridge are under investigation and so far, police have made one arrest.
According to Waterloo Regional Police, there were 20 reported thefts from unlocked cars between Feb. 7 and Feb. 18.
All the thefts occurred overnight or early in the morning; items like cash, wallets, electronics, identity documents, and fragrances were stolen.
In one incident on Feb. 10, a thief took a garage door opener from a vehicle on Pheasant Avenue and was able to enter a home’s garage. Once inside, they stole property including power tools and a leaf blower.
This week, police arrested and charged a 30-year-old man in connection with three of the reported thefts.
“Stolen property, including a laptop, cell phones, and bank cards, were recovered,” read a release from the Waterloo Regional Police Service.
Police continue to investigate the remaining 17 thefts and are asking anyone with information to contact them.
Drivers are also being urged to park their vehicles in secure locations, lock their doors, and keep valuables out of plain sight.
