Guelph police investigating theft at LCBO amid increasing robbery trend

Police in the royal city are on the lookout for two suspects following a theft at a local LCBO on Sunday.

On Feb. 9 at approximately 5:45 p.m., police say a man and a woman walked into an LCBO on Wellington Street West, each grabbed several bottles of booze and walked out without paying. In total, around $1,000 of hard liquor was stolen.

Scott Tracey, the Media Relations Coordinator for Guelph Police Service, said the latest theft is just one of a recent trend of alcohol thefts in the city.

“So far in 2025, we’ve had 20 of these that I’m aware of,” said Tracey. “Over the last several months, there has been a noticeable increase in the number and size of these LCBO thefts.”

Tracey noted that it is too soon in the investigation to know if the most recent theft is connected to any previous. When it came to what was stolen, Tracey said thieves have not been focused on beer and wine.

“Certainly it is more of the hard liquor; a wide range of scotch, tequila, that kind of thing,” he said.

The man is described as 6’0″ tall with dark receding hair in his 30s, wearing a grey jacket, red hoodie with black shoes with white soles. The woman is between 5’2″ and 5’5″ tall with black hair wearing a green jacket, black pants, a grey stripped toque with glasses on top and brown boots.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Guelph police.
