Local politicians hit the campaign trail in first week of provincial election bid
Local politicians are hitting the campaign trail in Waterloo Region, and have began their bids to be elected or reelected to a seat at Queen’s Park.
Incumbent NDP MPP Catherine Fife of the Waterloo riding was in New Hamburg on Thursday alongside Provincial NDP leader Marit Stiles, advocating against the ongoing Wilmot land assembly.
“This is some of the best arable land in Ontario, and it’s worth fighting for,” said Fife in a post to her Instagram account.

Green Party MPP Aislinn Clancy of the Kitchener Centre riding joined Provincial Green Party leader Mike Schreiner in Guelph on Thursday. Clancy and Kitchener Centre MP Mike Morrice will be out door-to-door in their riding on Saturday to meet with constituents.
PC MPP Mike Harris Jr. of the Kitchener-Conestoga riding was on The Mike Farwell Show on Thursday explaining the key points of his upcoming campaign.
Harris explained that he wants to attract more qualified doctors to Waterloo Region, and continue to focus on healthcare.
“We want them to stay here, we want them to learn here, grow here, we want them to practice here,” said Harris. “We just launched an initiative that’s going to try and connect every Ontarian with primary care.”

Liberal candidate for the Cambridge riding Rob Deutschmann shared a message to the public ahead of his campaign.
“I’m committed to addressing key issues, like affordable housing, healthcare access, and economic growth,” said Deutschmann in a video posted to YouTube.
The provincial election is on Feb. 27.
