Highway 401 reopens east of Waterloo Region following crash, vehicle fire

A bit of a headache for drivers on Highway 401 Monday morning after a vehicle fire closed the roadway just east of Waterloo Region.

It was just after 9 a.m. when the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) reported a collision in the eastbound lanes of the highway at Highway 6 North, closing all lanes of traffic.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), a single vehicle caught fire, resulting in billowing smoke and heavy delays through that stretch of the road.

There were no injuries reported as a result of that crash.

Providing an update just after 10 a.m., MTO said that collision-related closure had been cleared, with eastbound lanes of traffic reopening to motorists.
