No injuries after tent fire at Victoria Street encampment

No one was hurt after a fire broke out at the encampment at 100 Victoria St. in Kitchener.

Multiple units with the Kitchener Fire Department responded to the blaze Sunday night, shortly after 11 p.m.

Once crews arrived, they found a tent on fire and it was quickly extinguished.

The affected tent was destroyed but was unoccupied at the time, so no injuries were reported.

A neighbouring tent sustained minor damage because of the fire.

Officials believe the fire was caused by a heating malfunction in the tent.

The fire occurred as extreme cold settled into Waterloo Region.
