Mount Forest teen selling cookbook to help buy new accessible van

It’s about as good a cause as you might find.

John Ray is a grade 10 student at Wellington Heights Secondary School in Mount Forest who is confined to a motorized wheelchair because of congenital muscular dystrophy.

Just like all teenagers, John is growing and so are his mobility devices. He says the family needs a new van with better supports for the added weight of the chair and just more space for the young man.

He and family have put together a cookbook: Big John’s Farm Fresh Recipes: Quick, Healthy, Easy. It has 35 recipes, most of which are family favourites comprised of ingredients sold by the family at the Wellington North Farmer’s Market.

There are also a few from the community as well, including those of local radio personalities and Perth-Wellington MP John Nater.

The cook book costs $25. Ray is hoping it will bring in between $5,000 and $6,000 to help with the van which is expected to cost $100,000.

You pick-up a copy of Big John’s Farm Fresh Recipes: Quick, Healthy, Easy at Hybrid Hair & Detox Spa in Mount Forest and Cut and Design in Fergus.
