A construction company based in St. Jacobs has been fined $70,000 after a worker was critically injured more than two years ago.
The Ministry of Labour started investigating after a worker employed by Steed and Evans Ltd. was struck by a vehicle while on the job at a construction site in Fergus in June 2022.
The worker was reaching into a sewer chamber in the middle of the road and applying a coating, when another worker drove through the area and hit them.
The worker sustained critical injuries as a result of the incident.
The ministry’s investigation determined there were no traffic control measures, barriers, or warning signs around the workspace.
Steed and Evans Ltd. pled guilty to worker protection infractions, contrary to the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
The company was handed a $70,000 fine, in addition to a 25 per cent victim surcharge.
