“The City of Guelph is mourning the passing of a member of City staff, who was involved in a fatal collision with a Guelph Transit bus on January 8,” Tara Baker, Chief Administrative Officer, said in a statement. “Out of respect for the employee’s loved ones, we will not disclose their name at this time. Our focus is on supporting the employee’s family, colleagues, and all City staff who have been impacted by this terrible event, including the Transit Operator.”

Police said the Fergus man was struck while crossing Wyndham Street. He had to be extricated from underneath the city bus and was pronounced dead a short time later. Officials noted the driver of the bus remained on scene after the crash.
