Affordable housing is top of mind for many municipalities, but in Cambridge, some people are concerned how a pair of apartment buildings could affect the character of the neighbourhoods they live in.
A pair of meetings is scheduled to address concerns around two proposed high-density developments in the city.
The proposed developments are at 25 Chalmers St., the site of the former St. Ambrose school, and at the corner of Cedar Creek Road and Grand Ridge Drive.
Concerns sprouted up over these sites in November when residents near both potential developments attended a public meeting.
Potential impacts to the area’s traffic, parking, and even crime all raised concerns amongst residents.
Other issues raised by people living on Chalmers Street who said they didn’t want a tall complex stretching over their single-family fences, and those on Grand Ridge Drive worry that adding hundreds of vehicles to Cedar Creek Road, an already dangerous stretch of road, could have potentially disastrous outcomes.
For the Chalmers Street development, a neighbourhood meeting will go ahead on Feb. 3 at Cambridge City Hall, the Grand Ridge Drive meeting will be held on Feb. 6, also at city hall.
