If you decked the halls for Christmas and need to get rid of your natural tree, curbside collection is about to begin.
The Region of Waterloo is launching its annual real Christmas tree collection initiative on Monday, Jan. 6.
It continues through Jan. 17 and all the natural trees that get collected over the two-week period are chipped into mulch.
Residents can place their bare tree curbside by 7 a.m. on their regular garbage collection day. Any lights, ornaments, and stands need to be removed ahead of time.
You’re also asked to cut the tree in half if it’s longer than six feet, don’t place the tree in a bag, and make sure it’s visible for collection crews.
If you have an artificial tree, it can still be placed at the curb but it will be treated as a bulky item.
