Waterloo Regional Police are looking for suspects after seven vehicles were stolen out of residential driveways.
Officers say they received multiple reports Wednesday night in Kitchener and Waterloo as owners of two Toyota Tundras, two Toyota Tacomas and three Lexus RX S-U-V’s woke up to an empty driveway.
A third Toyota Tundra was also attempted to be stolen but the thieves were unsuccessful.
Investigators are encouraging vehicle owners to take steps to better protect themselves from theft by:
- Blocking access to the onboard diagnostic port with a device that can be bought online.
- Using a steering wheel locking device.
- Putting your keys in a radio frequency shielding bag or pouch.
- Equipping the vehicle with an aftermarket GPS tracker or immobilizer unit.
- Making sure all keys are accounted for and never left in the vehicle or unattended.
Also if you see any suspicious people in your neighbourhood looking into vehicles to call police immediately.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Waterloo Regional Police 519-570-9777, extension 8255 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
