Medical centre to open in Guelph at Conestoga College campus

A partnership between Conestoga College and Guelph General Hospital will give patients in the Royal City better access to diagnostic imaging services.

The new medical centre will open at the Conestoga College campus in Guelph on Speedvale Avenue, at the Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.

“While we have maintained leadership in the delivery of care throughout our 150-year history, our buildings have been unable to keep pace,” Mark Walton, President and CEO of Guelph General Hospital said in a press release.

“The new centre provides us with a necessary bridge so we can continue to deliver exceptional care while we plan for the future with our community.”

It will offer diagnostic imaging services like breast imaging, ultrasounds, X-rays, and MRIs and help meet the demands of the growing population.

The opening of the medical centre will also give students at Conestoga the chance to train in an in-demand sector: Health care.

“This new medical centre will enhance the availability of diagnostic services in our community, which is essential for early detection and prevention of medical conditions. It will also play a key role in enriching clinical learning experiences for our students, giving them the opportunity to work alongside healthcare professionals and gain hands-on experience in a real-world setting,” said John Tibbits, president of Conestoga College, in a press release.

Funding for the equipment and construction costs is in the process of being sourced by the Foundation of Guelph General Hospital, which is also securing funding for several other projects already underway.

They expect the centre to open to the public in December 2025.
