Transport truck slides off road near Stratford

By Erin Anderson

A closure was in effect Friday morning near Stratford after a transport truck slid right off the road and hit a hydro pole.

It happened just before 7 a.m. on Perth Road 130 near Line 26 in Perth South. The transport truck struck a hydro pole and transformer and landed on its side in the snowy ditch.

Stratford Police say the driver was stuck on top of the truck’s cab.

Officials are pointing to slippery road conditions for the single-vehicle crash.

“The driver did not have any injuries and no charges were laid as the crash was deemed to be caused by weather conditions,” wrote Cst. Darren Fischer in an e-mail to CityNews Kitchener.

Perth Road 130 was expected to stay closed in the area until Friday afternoon for hydro repairs.

Stratford Police urged drivers to slow down and use extra caution as wintry weather has moved in and it’s expected to be worse over the weekend.
