Region, Kitchener looking for final feedback for Charles Street Terminal site

The Region of Waterloo and the City of Kitchener are looking for more feedback on the site of the Charles Street Terminal in the heart of Downtown Kitchener.

Phase 4 of the Charles Street Terminal Visioning Project will look at developing design concepts for the site based on the feedback it receives from residents. The terminal on Charles Street closed in 2019 and is co-owned by the Region of Waterloo and the City of Kitchener.

Josh Graham, the associate director of development and portfolio management at the Region of Waterloo, said the current feedback has suggest four pillars on how the public wants the site to be used: affordable housing options, climate action, equity, diversity and inclusion, and a thriving economy

“We have an architect on board that’s helping us develop a mapping model and a vision for the site,” said Graham. “It’s really refining that feedback from the community and incorporating that into a potential proposal for regional council to consider.”

Regional staff and contractors will be at the Kitchener Market on Saturday Nov. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the history corner space. Two previous sessions and workshops were held this month on Nov. 8 and 21.

An online survey will also launch on Saturday on the EngageWR website and will be available until Dec. 16.
