Up to 50 cm of snow possible for Huron, Perth and Wellington Counties

Those driving outside of Waterloo Region this weekend, especially north, should be prepared for some significant snowfall.

By the end of the weekend, some communities in Northern Huron, Perth, Wellington, and Dufferin Counties could see up to 50 cm of snow. That’s according to Environment Canada, which as of Thursday morning issued a snow squall watch for those communities.

Up to 15 cm of snow could fall by Friday night, with the heavy snowfall continuing well into the weekend and next week.

Some of the areas impacted here include Listowel, Milverton, Mount Forest, Arthur, Shelburne and Orangeville.

“Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common,” a weather alert from Environment Canada reads. “Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather.”

That travel could include near-zero visibility at times through blowing and heavy snow.

It’s all due to lake effect snow off Lake Huron set to develop Thursday night.

As of Thursday morning, there are no active weather alerts for Waterloo Region.
