Waterloo Food Bank needs triple annual funding from Region

The Food Bank of Waterloo Region needs the Regional government to nearly triple its funding next year to more than two million dollars.

A statement from the agency says it’s currently set to receive $744,000 dollars next year.

But what they need for 2025 is nearly $2.1 million.

The demand for emergency food assistance across Waterloo Region has reached its highest level in the agency’s 40 years of service, the Food Bank said in a statement.

It says one in eight households in the region now rely on food support and in the past year alone, the organization saw almost 560,000 food hamper visits.

Regional councillors meet Wednesday in the latest round of budget debate.

They meet again Wednesday evening in a public input session.
