It’s been two years since a jet with 140 people on board went off the end of a runway at the Region of Waterloo International Airport, and investigators are still working on figuring out why.
A Flair Airlines Boeing 737 overran the runway on Nov. 25, 2022, with 134 passengers and six crew members on board, with no injuries reported.
The Transportation Safety Board has only said so far that “following touchdown, the flight crew encountered some directional control issues, and the aircraft did not decelerate as expected.”
The plane went 500 feet beyond the end of the runway and came to a stop in the mud.
Investigators observed “some minor damage observed on the left engine of the plane, however there was no observed damage to the landing gear.”
Ever since the incident, a Class 2 investigation has been underway at the TSB, which is described as a process that is “generally completed within 600 days.”
It’s been 731 days since the plane travelled over the edge of the runway.
The TSB said Class 2 investigations “frequently result in recommendations.”
