‘Tis the season for the WRPS Festive RIDE campaign

Driving impaired won’t just put you on Santa’s naughty list, it could also put you in jail.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) launched its annual Festive RIDE campaign on Friday.

The campaign will see local officers conducting RIDE initiatives and random mobile checks through to New Year’s Day.

“Driving while impaired, whether by alcohol or drugs, is both dangerous and illegal, and tragically remains the leading cause of criminal fatalities in Canada,” WRPS Staff Sgt. Scott Griffiths said in a release. “This campaign serves as a reminder that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drugs if you plan to drive during the holiday season.”

Police are asking residents to do their part to prevent any tragedies this holiday season, like always planning a safe ride home and calling 911 if they suspect a driver is impaired.

That way everyone can have a safe and happy holiday.
