Brand new sleigh bells will be ringing this year at the annual KW Santa Claus Parade.

Michelle Adams, President of the Lions Club of Kitchener, said Santa has a fresh float for the first time since 1979.

“After 45 years, we have a brand new float for Santa to ride on,” said Adams. “We talked to Santa this morning and he is very, very excited about the new float. He’s going to see it in-person for the first time tomorrow and he’s very, very excited to see everybody in Kitchener-Waterloo.”

More than 38 floats will make their way down Weber Street on Nov. 16 for the KW parade, including Santa’s new ride.

It starts at 10 a.m. at Frederick Street in Kitchener and the route ends at Erb Street in Waterloo. Donations are accepted along the way, and Adams said there’s always a great display of generosity.

“Our community is amazing and they always show up and support the toy drive, clothing drive, and food bank’s food drive.”

Adams said it takes more than 120 volunteers to pull off the event, and applications open up in September if you want to lend a hand for next year’s parade.

Santa has a full schedule this weekend as he’s also taking part in the Cambridge Santa Claus Parade on Nov. 16.

The Cambridge parade begins at 6 p.m. at Hespeler Road and Dunbar Road. More details can be found by clicking here.
