Amazon Fulfilment Centre in Cambridge officially open, hiring 1,000 associates in 2025

The Amazon Fulfilment Centre in Cambridge officially opened its doors Nov. 13. Construction on the one-million-square-foot facility began in 2022. Amazon YHM2 already started hiring and has already shipped out its first package.

It’s been a controversial topic in the past for the people who live in Blair, near the warehouse. A group called ‘Blair Engaged’ fought against the fulfilment centre but lost a legal case against the City of Cambridge in 2023.

The new facility opened after a bright blue ribbon was cut by Amazon associates alongside MPP Mike Harris Jr., MPP Brian Riddell, Coun. Helen Shwery and Regional Chair Karen Redman.

“We can officially say it’s open, we’ve done the grand opening, we’ve cut the ribbon, we’ve started to receive goods from our vendors and we’re starting to store inventory here,” said Amazon YHM2 site lead, Greg Clutton.

Clutton has been with Amazon for more than four-years and it was the first time he has seen a new warehouse launch.

“Its’ really exciting for us to start to partner with the people in the community, our leaders in the community, and to kind of just say ‘hey we’re here, we’re part of this market’ and we want to grow with the market and grow with the City of Cambridge,” said Clutton.

“I’m sure there are already customers in the region that have already gotten packages that have come through us already.”

So far, the new fulfilment centre has already hired 250 associates with plans to hire 1,000 by the end of 2025.

“This is an amazing opportunity for the region to create roughly 1,000 jobs and these are all good paying, local jobs with a very socially responsible company. We’ve already seen them giving back to the community through Habitat for Humanity and YMCA,” said Ontario Minister and MPP Mike Harris Jr. in an interview with 570 NewsRadio.

Harris added he’s happy to see companies like Amazon invest into the region.

“We’re looking here at one of the most cutting-edge warehouses, probably in Canada, with the way they use AI and the way they use robotics and different picking machines to assist – it’s not your traditional warehouse job,” said Harris.

With packages already being distributed to other nearby Amazon Robotics fulfilment centres, the facility is officially open.
