The Kitchener Rangers winning streak came to an end on Saturday, losing 5-4 in overtime to the Owen Sound Attack.
Both teams scored in the opening period, with Alexander Bilecki getting his first career OHL point with an assist on a Tanner Lam goal. The Attack would add three goals of its own in the second period to make it 4-1 after 40 minutes.
The Rangers would storm back with three goals of its own, including two from Luca Romano and one from Trent Swick to tie it at 4 with 58 seconds left in the third.
Overtime would not last long, as Sam McCue of Owen Sound scored on the power play just over two minutes into extra time. Despite the loss, the Rangers extend their point streak to 16 games and sit atop the OHL standings with a 13-2-2-1 record.
570 colour commentator Paul Fixter applauded Luca Romano’s performance, who extended his individual point streak to six games.
“He just seems to be finding the net, he’s playing with confidence and he has a shot that is a little bit deceptive,” Fixter said.
Jakub Chromiak (five), Andrew Vermeulen (five), and Trent Swick (four) also extended their own point streaks in Saturday’s faceoff.
The Rangers will complete its two game road trip in Oshawa to take on the Generals on Sunday.
