House of Friendship delivering Christmas dinners to 4,600 homes

House of Friendship has been helping fill bellies on Christmas for more than 20 years.

With the growing number of people facing food insecurity in Waterloo Region, they need your help to continue that good work.

As of Thursday morning, registration for the Christmas Food program has closed.

The final number of registered households sitting at 4,600, supporting 16,000 people according to Clare Wagner, community services director for House of Friendship.

“That holiday, that Christmas meal, that helps them feel belonging in their community,” said Wagner.

Wagner added that thefoodbank.ca is the place to go if you need support, adding that there are many organizations in the region available to help you get the support you need year-round.

“The cost of food is rising,” said Wagner. “Many people are trying to get by. Even on full-time jobs with a minimum wage it can be challenging.”

According to Wagner, the House of Friendship is noticing a greater need for food support in Kitchener and Waterloo this year. They’ve handed out 23 per cent more food hampers this year than they did in 2023.
