A pair of separate police investigations led to heavy police presences in Cambridge and Waterloo on Wednesday afternoon.
Waterloo Regional Police first announced around 1:30 p.m. that Mercer Road was closed between Samuelson Street and Bronson Avenue in Cambridge because of an unspecified police investigation.
Police then confirmed to CityNews Kitchener that officers responded to a residence on Mercer Road and it related to a sexual assault incident from September.
Police said the lone individual inside the residence cooperated with officers, and there were no weapons involved and no reported injuries. One person was taken into custody and Mercer Road fully reopened by 4:30 p.m.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m., police announced they were on scene in the Churchill Street area of Waterloo for what they called an ongoing weapons investigation.
Not many details were immediately available except there were no reported injuries and no public safety concerns.
