Man charged after harassment, assault incidents in downtown Guelph
A 64-year-old Guelph man now faces a list of charges following a series of incidents while allegedly intoxicated in the Royal City’s downtown area.
It was on Monday around 4:20 p.m. when a security guard reported confronting that man, after he was said to have been harassing an employee at a downtown business.
The suspect is said to have taken a swing at the security guard with his fist. He also reportedly drove his mobility scooter at the security guard, though Guelph Police say no contact was made.

The scuffle prompted the security guard to contact police – though just minutes later, a staff member at another downtown Guelph business reported that same man had punched an employee in the face while hurling racial slurs. That employee was reportedly not injured.
Officers arrived on scene and arrested that suspect, though while he was being processed at the police station, he is said to have lunged forward in an attempt to headbutt the arresting officer. Again, no contact was made.
The 64-year-old now faces multiple charges, including:
- Assault (two counts)
- Assault with a weapon
- Assault police
- Being intoxicated in a public place
That man will appear in court on Dec. 13.
