A local non-profit organization, Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Ontario has made a top 100 charity list again.
It has consistently been on Charity Intelligence Canada’s Top 100 Charities list since 2019. This year the organization also received a 5-star rating, recognized for having financial transparency and effective program delivery with 90 cents of every dollar donated going directly into causes.
“It’s a real honour to be included in that list; its an acknowledgement, I think, of the hard work we do to steward the resources entrusted to us, to multiply their impact,” Michelle Brenneman, executive director of MCC Ontario, said.
The list can sometimes determine how Canadians donate to charities. Brenneman added the organization has a local and global impact that Canadians often appreciate when donating.
“We do a lot of work in conservation agriculture techniques and training in places that are having food insecurity crisis,” she said.
Climate change has caused more issues, creating more complex needs for people who are displaced, added Brenneman MCC Ontario was recognized alongside MCC Canada, MCC British Columbia and MCC Manitoba for the 2024 list.
About 24 per cent of the funds go into supporting critical local programs, with the rest supporting MCC Canada’s international relief or development efforts.
Locally, they sponsor refugees, work with people to overcome poverty and build relationships with Indigenous neighbours.
“We’re grateful and we’re honoured and it’s a good motivation and impetus to just continue to dig in and do the work.”
