Temperatures in Waterloo Region break century-old records, more warm weather on the way

It was an unexpected surprise: a beautiful fall day with summer-like temperatures.

Temperatures in Waterloo Region broke records on Monday, some of which go back more than 100 years.

To find an Oct. 21 as hot as it was on Monday, you have to go all the way back to 1920.

The official recorded high was 25.6 C according to weather experts with Environment Canada. Temperature records were also set in Guelph, Oakville and Oshawa, while most of southern Ontario experienced above-average temperatures

For Tuesday, highs in the range of 25 C again mean Waterloo Region could end up breaking another heat record dating back to the 1940s.

However, 570’s Meteorologist Jill Taylor predicts the thermometer could drop from the mid-20’s on Tuesday to almost freezing overnight on Wednesday.

“High of 25 C today, and then by Thursday morning, temperatures in the morning near plus 1 C, that’s it,” said Taylor. “Thursday’s high, only 12 C, 13 C Friday.”

Those temperatures should make a comeback towards the end of the month, as Taylor is predicting temperatures around 12 C for Halloween on Oct. 31, but with some rain.
