The night sky was lit up by the Northern Lights Thursday night.
The spectacle could be seen across the province, including in Waterloo Region.
Photos were posted across social media outlets, showing the beautiful display of pink and green hues in the region’s townships, in Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge and into Guelph.
According to an astronomer at Western University, the increase in auroral activity is thanks to the sun’s natural cycle, which comes together in a period of increased activity about every 11 years.
Experts note, the sun’s activity has increased in the past year and is higher than it’s been in more than 20 years.
