Rangers host the Firebirds on Oktoberfest Night

The Kitchener Rangers will be looking for a better result as they open a 3-in-3 weekend with a contest against the Flint Firebirds at the Aud.

Opening weekend did not go as planned as the Rangers dropped their season opener to the Erie Otters 5-2 before suffering a 12-2 drubbing at the hands of the Windsor Spitfires on Sunday night.

The East Avenue Blue will be without LW Andrew Vermeulen and D. Max Dirracolo: both picked-up two-game suspensions in that loss to Windsor.

They’re expected to be back in the line-up on Sunday when the Guelph Storm come to town.

In between, the Rangers head north to tangle with the Attack in Owen Sound, Saturday night.

If you’re headed down to the Aud, don’t forget to pack your spirit of Gemütlichkeit – it is Oktoberfest Night.

Onkel Hans and Tante Frieda will be hosting Bavarian themed events throughout the evening.

Before the game, volunteers with the Food Bank of Waterloo Region will be collecting donations for the annual Stuff-a-Bus for Onkel Hans food drive.

They’ll be accepting non-perishables and cash donations.

Sunday night is the annual Kitchener Fire Night to kick-off Fire Prevention Week.

Members of the Kitchener Fire Department will participate in the ceremonial puck drop and present a check to Clarky’s Kids.

If you can’t make it to the games, you can catch all the action on 570 NewsRadio with Mike Farwell and Paul Fixter.

The pre-game show tonight begins at 6:30 p.m.
