Boxing pair to ‘Spank that Spigot!’ at K-W Oktoberfest official keg tapping

It’s almost time to roll out the barrel!

The official K-W Oktoberfest Keg Tappers have been announced and are ready to “punch” their ticket to another great year of celebrating anything and everything Bavarian.

Household boxing names, Mandy Bujold and Syd Vanderpool get the honour of being the ones to “Spank that Spigot!” Friday, Oct. 11, at the official keg tapping.

People that plan on being near the front, should bring their umbrellas for the noon-hour celebration at Willkommen Platz inside Carl Zehr Square.

Tracy van Kalsbeek, the executive director of KW Oktoberfest, called Bujold and Vanderpool are “true community builders.”

“I think they are very animated individuals that are very recognizable within the community and will bring that really great energy that both of them have,” said van Kalsbeek.

Bujold is a former Olympian and 11 time national champion and Vanderpool, born in Kitchener, is the former world #1 boxer and is currently a coach.

“It’s an incredible honour to be part of such a historic tradition in our region,” says Olympian Mandy Bujold in a press release. “Tapping the keg at Oktoberfest celebrates not only the culture but also the community that has made this event so special over the years.”

Former competitive boxer Vanderpool said in a press release that he is “excited to be part of Kitchener’s rich Oktoberfest tradition this year, tapping the keg alongside the incredible Mandy Bujold! It’s about coming together, celebrating community and enjoying the spirit of this amazing city. Prost to good times, great company, and unforgettable memories!”

Those “good times” can be enjoyed until Oc. 19. The full schedule of events can be found here.
