In a push to keep up with its designation as a Tree City of the World, Cambridge is welcoming back its annual Free Tree Day program.
The event sees an average of 400 trees given out each year to residents across the community. The city says this is to increase the municipality’s tree canopy and improve air quality to help fight against climate change.
The program is being offered solely to residents of Cambridge, who need to register beforehand prior to the event. In the registration, residents also get to select which tree they’d like to take home, with options including Bitternut Hickory, Serviceberry, and Ohio Buckeye trees.
One tree is being given out per person and per address, all while supplies last. The city adds that any duplicate orders or multiple orders will be cancelled. Full details of the program can be found on Cambridge’s website.
Registration is set to be open from Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. to Sept. 25 at 2 p.m., with the big day being Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. until noon. It will run rain or shine and is on a drive-thru system with contactless pick-up.
The event will take place at the Duncan McIntosh Arena at 200 Christopher Dr. in Cambridge, with the city reminding those who register to call before they dig and only plant the trees on private property.
