Man arrested after pair of collisions while driving impaired in Guelph

A Kitchener man has been charged with impaired driving after two collisions in Guelph on Friday.

The incidents began at about 6:30 p.m. when the impaired driver struck a motorist while attempting to pass on the shoulder at a red light.

The victim caught up to the impaired driver and motioned him to pull over and exchange information, but he sped off.

Then, at the intersection of Speedvale Avenue and Elmira Road, the suspect ran a red light and struck another vehicle, causing debris to strike a different vehicle as well.

Officers found the 27-year-old Kitchener man and noticed the smell of alcohol on his breath while speaking to him.

Tests confirmed that he had two times the legal limit of alcohol in his system, and he was promptly arrested, charged, had his license suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

He will appear in court on Sept. 27.
