New elementary school and community centre coming to south Kitchener

By Matt Hutcheson

Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic was joined by representatives from the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) on Tuesday to break ground a new elementary school and community centre in Kitchener’s south end.

Located in the Rosenberg neighbourhood, the school will be home to 527 students and will house a 17,000 square-foot community centre.

Included in the community centre is a double gym, four program rooms, offices and enough space for an outdoor skating rink in the winter. It will replace the current Williamsburg Community Centre located at 1187 Fischer-Hallman Road.

“Thanks to our long-standing history of partnerships with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, our teams developed a great vision for building this new community center, which has been fully endorsed by City Council through our commitment of $6 million towards the facility,” said Vrbanovic in a press release from the city.

In a press release of their own, the WCDSB said the facility will be completed in time to welcome students in September 2025.
