House fire in Cambridge blamed on gas leak, nearby homes evacuated for safety

A house fire in Cambridge, Wednesday afternoon, had firefighters evacuating the nearby homes for fears of a gas leak.

Waterloo Regional Police say multiple calls started coming in around 3:30 for a fire at 410 Pinetree Crescent, near Preston Parkway and Parkview Crescent, and Parkway Public School on that corner.

Police say no one was hurt.

12 hours later, at 3:30 Thursday morning, a smoke alarm could still be heard going off inside the home, with yellow tape and a security guard out front.

Cambridge Fire Department officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
