Teen faces over twenty charges after dangerous driving incidents in Kitchener, Waterloo

A local teen now faces charges of dangerous driving, flight from a peace officer and more after being arrested in connection with dangerous driving incidents in both Kitchener and Waterloo.

It was just after 9 a.m. on Aug. 17 when police received reports of a motorcyclist blowing through red lights at intersections in the area of Queen Street South and King Street East.

It’s alleged that police officers spotted that driver, and attempted to stop him — only for the teen to evade police by driving on a sidewalk — as well as through a crosswalk.

Police did not initiate a chase out of concerns for public safety, though the involved motorcyclist was later identified through an investigation and with assistance from members of the public.

On Monday, police in Waterloo’s university district spotted a motorcyclist driving at “excessive speeds” and failing to stop for red lights. That motorcycle was allegedly not equipped with licence plates either.

Officers conducted a traffic stop of that motorcycle and arrested the driver, later identifying him as the same motorcyclist involved in the mid-August incident in Kitchener.

The 18-year-old Kitchener man now faces 21 offences including:

  • Dangerous operation (two counts)
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Red light – fail to stop (two counts)
  • Race a motor vehicle
  • Careless driving
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
