Public to give opinion on Eby Farmstead in Waterloo Park; survey open

It’s been a staple of Waterloo Park since the late 1960s, and now the City of Waterloo wants to know, should the animals stay or go at Waterloo Park?

The city is looking to plan out the next few years for the park, and part of that is deciding what to do with the Eby Farmstead. The small “zoo” like structure is currently home to two donkeys, a couple of horses, alpacas, and llamas.

A report to council earlier this year showed living conditions for the animals are not ideal. This includes poor drainage in the enclosure, a lack of grazing space, and noise concerns having the farmstead so close to the ION rail corridor.

Residents can have their say on the plans from now until Sept. 9.

The online survey reads, “Feedback from the community will be collected throughout the summer of 2024 and staff will bring a report to Council in the fall that recommends either improvements for the future of Eby Farmstead, or reimagining of the space.”

It’s all part of a bigger plan to update and reimagine Waterloo Park as a whole.

The full Waterloo Park Plan Update is expected to be launched in 2025.
