Bridge work brings lengthy closure to Roseville Road in North Dumfries

A substantial closure is on the way for the drive around Highway 401 in North Dumfries.

The Region of Waterloo is expected to begin bridge work on Roseville Road in early September, closing the roadway between Whistle Bare Road and Kings Road from Sept. 2 through to Nov. 21, 2025.

Detours have been provided by the region for motorists looking to work through the lengthy closure.

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) said that closure is part of a multi-billion dollar investment in their Ontario Highways Program, including roughly 650 expansion and rehabilitation projects across the province.

The work will be conducted by Green Infrastructure Partners (GIP), including improvements to existing drainage systems. Work in the area kicked off early this month, while plans to demolish the bridge are set for 2024 — an exact demolition date is expected to be shared once it’s confirmed.

The overall cost of the bridge replacement is expected to be just over $17 million. The ministry has noted that this work will help to accommodate future improvements to Highway 401.

The bridge replacement project is anticipated to be completed in 2025.

For the extent of this phase of work, eastbound traffic is encouraged to detour from Roseville Road to Northumberland Street, over to Cedar Creek Road and up Dumfries Road to reconnect to Roseville.

Westbound traffic moving through the work area can use Dumfries Road to Cedar Creek Road, routing up Northumberland Street to return to Roseville Road.
