Police locate and arrest youth escapee from Wilmot facility

Regional police have located and arrested a youth who recently escaped from a detention facility in Wilmot Township.

The 16-year-old, from Kitchener, was in custody in relation to a number of charges including first degree murder and other firearm related offences.

He escaped from the facility on Queen Street in Wilmot on July 21.

On Tuesday at 4 p.m. officers found and arrested the youth in the area of Highland Road West and Westheights Drive in Kitchener.

Police also conducted a search warrant at a residence in the area, and charged the youth with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of breach of probation.

He’ll also face additional charges due to fleeing the Wilmot detention facility including, escape and being at large without excuse.

Waterloo Regional Police are thanking the public for their help in locating the youth who was held for a bail hearing.
