Police release video footage of Cambridge break-in, looking to identify suspect

Multiple businesses in Cambridge were reportedly broken into July 29 in the span of just twenty minutes.

Waterloo Regional Police have released video footage of one of the break-ins and are looking to identify the suspect.

One of them was Romin Optical, who told 570 NewsRadio it’s making some of the business owners in their plaza on Hespeler Road nervous. The owner, Lubna Agahzadeh , said they were in their last location for six-years and never were robbed. They’ve been at their current location for almost four years.

“This is our second robbery and it’s just really hard to cope with because we have to deal with insurance companies, my patients will question why my door is boarded up and then try and explain to them, it just kind of gives us a bad reputation,” said Agahzadeh.

“A lot of headaces we have to go through just trying to recover from it. We feel a little bit invaded because they come into our personal space so just a little frustrated as well.”

The first time they were broken into was almost two-years ago and the optical shop lost about $10,000 in merchandise or 80 per cent of their sunglasses. This week cash and merchandise was stolen, totaling about $5,000. Agahzadeh said they are looking into increasing security to keep it from happening again.

Agahzadeh added they have noticed and heard that the amount of break and enters happening in that area has increased.

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating the early morning break-ins near the Hespeler Road and Sheldon Drive area Monday morning.

It all happened between 5:50 a.m. and 6:10 a.m. when an unknown male allegedly broke into four separate businesses and stole cash and merchandise.

Police say he smashed glass doors and windows to get in.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-570-9777, extension 8255.
