Waterloo Regional Police closed a stretch of roadway in Wilmot for several hours on Tuesday as they responded to a fatal two-vehicle collision.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Nafziger Road and Berlett’s Road, south of Wellesley, as a Toyota sedan and Chevrolet sedan collided.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. The individual has been identified as a 75-year-old Wellesley woman.

The driver of the Chevrolet was airlifted to an out-of-region hospital. Initially, a spokesperson with Ornge air ambulance said a woman in her 40s was transported to Hamilton General with critical injuries.

Police then provided an update, saying the 47-year-old Kitchener woman sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The area of Nafziger Road and Berlett’s Road was shut down for more than six hours because of the crash.

Waterloo Regional Police said their investigation into the collision remains ongoing and they want any witnesses to contact them.
