Construction closes intersection of Wilson Avenue, Goodrich Drive in Kitchener

The Region of Waterloo has issued a warning to drivers as work to install a roundabout at Wilson Avenue and Goodrich Drive gets underway this week in Kitchener.

According to a public notice shared by the regional government, that work has already begun, aiming to improve the intersection with new concrete curbs, asphalt surfaces, a multi-use trail and storm sewer improvements in addition to the installation of a roundabout.

Detours have been posted, though motorists are advised that the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Goodrich Drive will be closed to through traffic into October.

Two-way traffic is still maintained on Wilson Avenue just north of the Goodrich Drive intersection up to Wabanaki Drive. Goodrich Drive traffic is maintained from Wabanaki Drive to just east of the Wilson Avenue intersection.

Motorists may detour using nearby Manitou drive between Fairway Road and Wabanaki Drive.

That construction is expected to extend through to November 2024, with the roundabout opening to traffic in October.

That additional month of work will see the installation of street lighting, as well as boulevard and landscape restoration.

The work comes as part of an ongoing River Road extension project, between King Street and Manitou Drive, approved by regional council back in 2014.
