Community can give opinion on updated Drinking Water Source Protection Plan

By Justine Fraser

The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) is inviting the community to provide opinions before they update the Drinking Water Source Protection Plan for the Grand River watershed. It was prepared under the Clean Water Act, 2006 guidelines that aims to protect municipal drinking water sources to ensure they can be used in the future.

In a media release, the GRCA said a technical study was completed for the Region of Waterloo Water Supply System that impacts the City of Cambridge, City of Kitchener, City of Waterloo and Township of North Dumfries. It provided “a measured assessment of current and future sustainability of sources of municipal drinking water in light of growth and development.”

The results are included in the draft version of the updated plan.

A draft version of the updated plan is available for the community to look over online at sourcewater.ca.

The public is invited to review and provide feedback about the changes made in the draft version of the updated Drinking Water Source Protection Plan.

The community can submit comments in writing to the Source Protection Program Coordinator, Kaitlyn Rosebrugh though email (comments@sourcewater.ca) or by mail.
