Driver made a 180 degree turn across three lanes on Hwy. 401 near Cambridge ONroute

A driver is facing a slew of charges for allegedly turning right into oncoming traffic and going the wrong way near the Cambridge ONroute station to avoid being pulled over, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said.

Constable Timothy Dunnah confirmed to CityNews 570 the details of a frightening rush hour scene that happened around 7:40 a.m. on Thursday.

He said an officer in an unmarked OPP cruiser spotted a vehicle driving along the left-side shoulder of the eastbound lanes of the highway.

When the officer activated the cruiser lights to pull the driver over, Dunnah said that driver took off, and essentially made a U-turn and went the wrong way on the highway, crossing three live lanes of traffic.

The suspect clipped an 18-wheeler and wound up in the right-side ditch, but Dunnah said no one was hurt.

The 26-year old from Scarborough, Ont. is now facing charges of dangerous operation, fail to remain, and two counts of driving while prohibited.

The suspect’s licence was under suspension from previous impaired driving charges.
