Ontario funds millions for supportive housing in Wellington County

A much-needed funding boost is going to Wellington County for improvements in supportive housing, mental health and addiction services.

The Ontario government is funding $9 million to connect more than 100 people in the Guelph and Wellington areas to housing and helping to increase access to people at transitional homes.

This money comes from the government’s 2024 budget allocation, Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, said in a press release.

“Today’s investment will break down barriers to make it easier and faster for people in Guelph-Wellington to access supportive housing and community-based mental health and addictions support services close to home,” she said.

The funding will help connect 32 people to housing with 24/7 support at Stonehenge Therapeutic Community and Guelph Community Health Centre’s Shelldale facility, which supports people experiencing chronic homelessness.

A further 76 residents at Grace Gardens, Wyndam House and Delhi Street transitional home will gain further access to support.

The organizations will be able to hire 16 new full-time healthcare positions that will connect people to primary care, create individual plans and support group and individual therapy.
