Arson charges laid after fires cause substantial damage in Cambridge

A number of fires in Cambridge in the span of a few days have yielded arson charges and more for a 42-year-old man.

Waterloo Regional Police say the fires happened between June 20 and 22, bringing officers out to “multiple property damage and arson calls throughout the city of Cambridge.”

Police say structures on the various properties were substantially damaged, but no one was hurt.

An arrest was announced Sunday morning.

The accused man is facing three counts of arson — damage to property; break and enter — commit indictable offence; and mischief under $5,000.

Police tell CityNews 570 the accused is from Waterloo Region, without specifying which part, and out of respect for the victims they are not releasing the locations where the fires occurred.
